FAQ · Frequently Asked Questions
What type of Club is it?
It is a combination golf club and social club. We do not play real serious golf, but we do take the
competitions somewhat seriously and do alter the rules to facilitate fast play and allow the
lesser golfer to keep pace.

Do I have to be a great golfer to play?
No. However, our experience has shown that you will enjoy your experience more if you have played
at least 5 or more rounds in the last year at a regulation course (par 70+ with a slope greater than 115).

without playing in any tournaments?

I am a member of another club. Do I receive
the multi club discount?
No, the fee is not pro-rated or discounted.

I want to join and have no handicap
but want to compete. What happens here?
You can play in the tournaments but you will not be eligible to be in any of the events that require a
handicap for that event. You must record 5 scores with the SCGA to receive an index and compete in any of the
handicapped events. As a member you can compete in the long drive, closest to the pins and double your money.

How are the handicaps calculated?
Scores are entered into the SCGA handicapping system via computer terminal generally located at each course.
WGC tournament scores are entered by the WGC handicap chairperson at the conclusion of each tournament. Your handicap
(or index) is automatically calculated by this system. As a general rule your handicap is based on the lowest 10 scores
out of your last 20 rounds adjusted for the slope rating. (it is far more complicated but this is easier to remember).

Why do WGC tournament handicaps differ from my
index on the SCGA website?
Each course is rated differently with respect to the course difficulty. This is called the slope system.
You may have a 15.0 index and play to a 14 handicap at one course and a 17
handicap at another course.

Can I use this handicap at other tournaments
that I play in?
Yes, this is your official handicap. You may have your SCGA card stamped at each tournament to verify to others your
handicap status, or your tournament official may access your scores via the SCGA system to verify your handicap.

What is the tournament format?
The format is individual stroke play, based on
handicapped flights. Prizes are awarded for Low Gross and
Low Net scores, Closest to the Pins, Long Drives (Men &
Women), and Low Putts. There is no additional charge for these
awards. We also play an optional (you pay to enter) double your money hole;
if you hit the
green on the designated par three hole, you get double your money back. There is
also a skins game that you can enter before the Tournament.

How do you choose the courses, days and cost?
This site selection committee has a difficult task here. They do the best they can to get the best courses at an
affordable price. The affordable price definition is different for each member. Saturdays are better than Sundays
for some members and vice versa. Some of the nicer courses at an affordable price, are approximately an hour away. The
WGC does survey the members periodically to determine some of these parameters.

Can I bring a friend with me to play?
Generally yes. Our tournaments are open to members, family and friends. We usually reserve 36 spots, sometimes one year
in advance. Members will receive priority if we reach the limit and the course cannot provide additional openings for the
tournament.
Why do we have to
pay in advance?
The WGC must put down a deposit well in advance, then
pay the course the final fees prior to the Tournament Day. The WGC
is a not-for-profit organization and must use your entry fees to
make this payment to the courses.

Will I get my money back if I cancel?
Cancellations are the nemesis of all tournament play. The courses are reluctant to make any refund.
There are usually contract provisions that prevent the issuance of refunds. Additionally,
there is quite a bit of preparation that goes into a tournament that has to be redone upon any
cancellation. Note that if you cancel BEFORE any entry fee due date you will receive a full refund.
